Reverend Okjoo Shin’s third book Sorcerer in the Church exposes with biblical proof the identity of the crowd in the church who uses Jesus Christ’s name to falsely tell divinations. Her earlier book Lies Differing from the Bible had lasting impact in the Korean Church by correcting the countless errors that arose from privately interpreting and distorting the Bible. The author explains the Bible with the Bible to expose the falsity of the phrase “Take the fire of the Holy Spirit,” which countless preachers preach, and which countless Christians desire. The author also calls for the reader to turn away from superstitious faith of believing in the words of the preachers which differ from the Bible by proving the falsity of the prayer in tongues being a prayer speaking mysteries to God, and by plainly exposing the falsity of all kinds of charismatic gifts that are prevalent in the church.
Sorcerer in the Church (2014) plainly lays out the state of Christianity, which believes that praying to basically seek the earthly things and the answers to those prayers are a gift bestowed by God. The lexical meaning of sorcerer is ‘One who serves evil spirits, practises occult and divination.’ If the word written in Exodus 22:18, “You shall not allow a sorceress to live,” were to be applied literally, the sorcerers out in the world should not be allowed to live. It is a word upon which every Christian should ponder deeply whether the Scripture written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit indeed meant for the sorcerers out in the world to not be allowed to live. It is written clearly in Ecclesiastes that no one knows what will happen.
“In the day of prosperity be happy, But in the day of adversity consider– God has made the one as well as the other So that man will not discover anything that will be after him.”
Ecclesiastes 7:14
“If no one knows what will happen, who can tell him when it will happen?”
Ecclesiastes 8:7
“Yet the fool multiplies words No man knows what will happen, and who can tell him what will come after him?”
Ecclesiastes 10:4
God has said that He will not let man know what will happen physically, yet there are people in the church who tell divinations in Jesus’ name, who prophesy, and who claim to have been taught by the Holy Spirit of what is to come. Reverend Okjoo Shin defines the sorcerer in the church as “one who flatters with her words, the diviner, the spiritist, magician, medium, one who practises sorcery, one who practises witchcraft, one who practises divination, one who uses divination, charmer, and one who interprets omens.” She has discerned the meaning of these words to explain who these are in detail, by following the word of God, “combine spiritual thoughts with spiritual words” (1 Corinthians 2:13).
Reverend Okjoo Shin warns through her book that the Bible is unlike any other book of the world in that, interpreting the Bible recklessly by human thoughts will bear the fearful result of opposing the Lord instead of preaching the gospel.
“[Wisdom]… to deliver you from the strange woman, From the adulteress who flatters with her words” (Proverbs 2:16). The adulteress who flatters with her words is the sorcerer. The adulteress in the verse does not literally mean a woman sorceress; she represents the church in which is the sorcerer who uses Jesus’ name (refer to Galatians).
Many times, the book of Proverbs writes woman as a representation of the church. Men in some passages represent the servants of the Lord, and the chosen children of God in some others. Hence, one would stumble in what he says if he speaks of the sorcerer as merely a physical woman without knowing the meaning of the word, which is emphasised through the book as equating to not understanding the deep will of God. In conclusion, the adulteress who flatters with her words is the sorcerer in the church who separates God and men, who plunders their souls as her own portion, who uses Jesus’ name to speak flattering lies to people all her life to be allotted her portion of their souls publicly.
Everything that is to come upon the face of the earth, including the future of Christians, should be spoken by the Holy Spirit and prophesied in the written Scripture, which can only be discerned by hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit through a sermon that precisely discerns the Bible with the Bible. The will of God can be discerned only through the greatest book of prophecy on earth, that is, the Bible.
Moreover, this word of prophecy is made known to the chosen children of God by guiding them into all the truth with the Spirit of Truth in a time which God had already appointed before the ages. The work of the Spirit was written in the Scripture to enable the reader to discern just by reading the text, yet Christianity had eyes, but could not see. It has believed only the words of people who stood on the church pulpit, read a verse from the Bible, and preached their own words. The Sorcerer in the Church explains this truth plainly, so that it is truly a must-read book of reformation of this age for all Christian who desires to follow the way of the Lord obediently.
Furthermore, Reverend Okjoo Shin explains through the book that the 21st century now pertains to the universal autumn festivals after 4,000 years of Old Testament and 2,000 years of New Testament periods, more specifically, the time to pass through the Great Day of Trumpets, the Year of Jubilee, and the Great Day of Atonement, which is the time to carry out biblical reformation, during which we must be born again of water and the Spirit by leaving the spiritual state of remaining in the elementary teaching about the Christ. She provides the means of being born again as to hear the voice of the Spirit of Truth, who will guide us into all the truth.
However, the majority of Christians who should hear the voice of the Spirit of Truth are the people of the earth who do go to church and use Jesus’ name, but are actually the Gentiles in the church, about whom God had already prophesied in the Bible. This was the case in the time when Jesus came to the earth in the flesh. It is written in the Bible that this will be true until the second advent of our lord.
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you”
John 14:16~17
All Christian who is embarrassed of the state of Christianity and her corruptions and shame should read Sorcerer in the Church, which has biblically interpreted the identity of the sorcerer who is deep-rooted within Christianity of today. I pray that the reader would, through this book, leave the elementary teachings and attain the measure of stature of the fullness of Christ.
Excerpt
A critical issue for Christians is the sorcerers who are in the church, that is, those who use Jesus’ name and claim to have received, through prayer, divination and the future events, which are tomorrow for men. More fatal is those who speak in the name of God the Spirit by claiming that the Holy Spirit has taught them through their prayers. The Holy Spirit never passes on divination and tell what is to happen tomorrow (the good and the bad) physically to any individual personally.
